Following in His Father’s Footsteps - Evan’s Next-Generation Journey at NRVTA

For Evan, the path to his future started long before he ever stepped foot on the campus of the National RV Training Academy (NRVTA) in Athens, Texas.
Growing up in Pennsylvania, he watched his dad transform a small service job into a thriving RV repair business.

“My dad started off as a service technician at a mom-and-pop shop back home,” Evan shared. “Eventually he left that job and opened his own business. He’s been doing that for a few years now, and I’ve helped him out from time to time.”

At first, it was just simple tasks—passing tools, watching, and learning from the sidelines. But as Evan became more involved, he realized he wanted to take his knowledge further.

A Choice Between College and Career Skills

When it came time to plan his next step, Evan faced a familiar crossroad: college or hands-on training.
“For me, it was between going to college or coming here,” he said. “My dad really wanted me to get certified so I could work alongside him and eventually handle jobs on my own.”

After researching programs and hearing his dad’s recommendation, Evan decided NRVTA was the perfect fit.
The academy offers a complete learning path for RV technicians and inspectors — from basic fundamentals to advanced diagnostics and business readiness.

Learning by Doing

Once on campus, Evan immediately discovered what sets NRVTA apart from traditional schools: the focus on real-world training.

“The Hands-On part is what makes this place so different,” he explained. “You’re actually working on air conditioners, water heaters, electrical systems—everything you’ll see in the field. It’s not just textbooks and slides. You get to touch the equipment and see how it works.”

By the end of his program, Evan was no longer just helping his dad on weekends. He was ready to step into the business as a qualified technician with industry-recognized training and certification.

Building a Family Business — and a Future

“The goal is to work under my dad’s wing for now,” Evan said, “and then eventually take over the business. Hopefully, we can grow it and maybe hire a few employees.”

That ambition is exactly what NRVTA is designed to inspire — empowering students not only to learn a trade but to create sustainable, independent careers.

For Evan, the experience has been both educational and personal. He’s continuing his father’s legacy while building his own path in a fast-growing industry that values skill, trust, and service.

A Career That Moves With You

Evan recommends the National RV Training Academy to anyone who wants to learn a hands-on career without spending years in a classroom. “It’s given me skills I’ll use for years to come,” he said. “I’m nervous and excited to see where this career takes me.”

With more RVs on the road than ever before, trained technicians are in high demand. And for Evan, it’s not just about job security—it’s about continuing a family story rooted in hard work and independence.
