From Automotive Tech to Mobile RV Tech: How NRVTA Training Changed Billy’s Career in Fort Myers

For more than two decades, Billy from Fort Myers, Florida, built his career in the automotive world. He was a heavy-line technician and later moved into management at a dealership he called home for 21 years. But after two decades in the same industry, he felt the pull to do something different — something that offered more freedom, hands-on problem-solving, and a new challenge.

“I was hesitant to come,” Billy admitted. “I was afraid it wouldn’t be as good as I hoped. I’ve had instructors in corporate training programs who were paid a lot of money, so I worried if the instructors here could compare. But they blew it away.”

From Automotive Tech to Mobile RV Tech: How NRVTA Training Changed Billy’s Career in Fort Myers

Discovering the NRVTA Difference

When Billy found the National RV Training Academy (NRVTA) through YouTube, he started researching what made the program unique. He quickly learned that NRVTA isn’t just another classroom-based school — it’s a hands-on training center where students learn by doing.

With his background as a technician, that approach immediately clicked. “I’ve literally tested over a hundred furnaces and water heaters,” he said. “When they bug them, you’re testing them. There’s no way to do that anywhere else — not even in an automotive setting.”

He also learned to build and wire the back of a refrigerator from scratch — understanding each component, each connection, and each diagnostic step. “That’s incredibly helpful for someone like me who learns best with my hands, not just sitting in a classroom,” he said.

Quality, Value, and Real-World Results

Billy says what makes NRVTA stand out isn’t just the equipment or curriculum — it’s the people. The instructors, many of whom have years of field experience, bring real-world scenarios into the classroom and ensure every student leaves confident in their skills.

“They have quality here,” he said. “They have value here. You get all the information you need to succeed in mobile RV service.”

The program is structured to help graduates become certified through the RV Technician Association of America (RVTAA) and the National RV Inspectors Association (NRVIA) — two organizations setting the national standard for RV repair and inspection excellence.

Building a New Career in Mobile RV Service

With his training complete, Billy is excited to bring his expertise into the RV industry — a field that’s growing faster than ever. Unlike automotive repair, RV service offers flexibility and independence. Mobile RV technicians can travel, set their own schedules, and work directly with RV owners who need fast, reliable service.

For Billy, it’s a fresh start that still builds on everything he’s learned. His years in automotive repair taught him discipline and precision — and now, NRVTA has given him the tools to apply that knowledge in a new way.

“If you’re thinking about coming to NRVTA,” he said, “take the chance. You won’t regret it.”
