When Greg, from Apache Junction, Arizona, realized his industry was downsizing, he knew it was time to make a change. “The field I was working in was no longer stable,” he said. “They were making cuts, and it just wasn’t suitable for my future.”
He began researching new opportunities online—something that would combine hands-on work with long-term stability. “I came across the National RV Training Academy during my search,” he said. “There were a lot of schools and training programs out there, but none of them compared to what this one had to offer.”
That research led Greg to Athens, Texas, where he began a new journey in the fast-growing world of RV maintenance and solar installation.
A Fresh Start Through Fundamentals
Greg started with NRVTA’s RV Fundamentals Course, a one-week training designed to teach the core systems found in every RV—plumbing, electrical, propane, water heaters, and more.
“The fundamentals week was incredibly informational, and it was a lot of fun,” Greg said. “It gave me a strong foundation and the confidence to move into the next program—solar installation.”
NRVTA’s training approach emphasizes hands-on learning. Students not only study systems in the classroom but also work directly on real RVs in the school’s training labs.
Hands-On Solar Experience
After completing Fundamentals, Greg continued into NRVTA’s Solar Installation Program, a course that dives into designing and building off-grid power systems for RVs.
“We actually installed a live solar system on a customer’s RV,” he said. “It gave us the chance to see every step—from wiring to mounting panels to connecting the batteries. You really start to understand how everything works together.”
He explained that every RV solar system includes three main components: the panels, the control and conversion equipment, and the battery bank. “Being able to handle each piece and see how it all integrates makes the learning experience completely real,” Greg said.
Building a New Career Path
With his new knowledge, Greg plans to return to Phoenix to begin a new career as a mobile RV solar installer and tank cleaning technician.
“Based on what I’ve learned here, I plan to install a solar system in my own rig when I get back home,” he said. “From there, I’ll start offering solar installation services to other RV owners in my area.”
Greg sees huge potential in Arizona’s growing RV community. “There’s a real demand for people who understand solar and RV systems,” he said. “Being able to troubleshoot, install, and educate customers adds tremendous value.”
Why Greg Chose NRVTA
For Greg, the decision came down to quality and credibility. “There were other schools out there, but NRVTA stood out immediately,” he said. “The professionalism, the hands-on training, the real-world experience—it’s everything you need if you’re serious about getting into the RV industry.”
He also appreciated the atmosphere on campus. “The instructors are supportive and patient. They don’t just lecture—they make sure you understand every step. You’re not just memorizing; you’re doing.”
A Message to Others Considering a Change
Greg encourages anyone feeling stuck in their current job to consider the opportunities at NRVTA. “If you’re looking for a career change, or if you’ve ever considered working in the RV industry, take a look at this school,” he said. “The skills and training are here, and the industry is wide open for people who want to work.”
He added, “If you love what you do, this program gives you the tools to make it happen. It’s one of the best decisions I’ve made.”
