From Law Enforcement to Family Freedom - Tyler’s Journey to Becoming a Mobile RV Technician at NRVTA

For years, Tyler served his country and community through the Air Force and law enforcement. It was meaningful work — but it came with sacrifice.

“I really wanted to spend more time with my family,” Tyler said. “Law enforcement kept me away from them a lot. I’ve got two little kids that I love more than anything, and I wanted to be there for them.”

That desire to be more present led Tyler and his wife to look for a new path — one that could provide both income and freedom.

“My wife found the school — the National RV Training Academy — and brought it up to me,” he said. “When I found out I could use my GI Bill, that sealed it. It was a great opportunity for us to start a new chapter in life.”

From Zero Knowledge to Confident Technician

Tyler came to NRVTA with no background in RV systems or repair work. “I came here with zero knowledge,” he admitted. “I was the guy who would call someone for everything.”

But within just five weeks, everything changed.

“Now I can go up and down these rigs and fix them confidently,” he said. “It’s been a crazy transformation — not just in my skills, but in my confidence.”

Through NRVTA’s unique mix of classroom and hands-on training, Tyler learned how to troubleshoot and repair RV air conditioners, furnaces, refrigerators, water heaters, and electrical systems.

“The hands-on approach makes all the difference,” he explained. “You’re not just reading about how something works — you’re actually taking it apart, testing it, and fixing it yourself. That’s where it clicks.”

A New Business and a New Way of Life

Today, Tyler and his wife are taking that newfound knowledge and turning it into a family business.

“We’re starting our own mobile RV repair business,” he said proudly. “That means I get to stay on the road, work on RVs, and spend time with my family — the best of all worlds.”

For Tyler, NRVTA didn’t just teach technical skills. It created a path toward a lifestyle he once thought impossible — one where freedom, income, and family time all coexist.

“If you’re a full-time RVer or just want to learn to fix your own rig, the knowledge you gain here is invaluable,” he said. “The instructors are amazing, the training is real, and the opportunities after graduation are endless.”

A Message for Others Ready for Change

Tyler hopes his story inspires others — especially fellow veterans and families — to take that same leap.

“Check out NRVTA,” he said. “If you’re ready for a new direction, the skills you’ll gain here are life-changing. It’s worth every bit of effort — because you’ll come out confident, capable, and free.”
