For Justin, a former battalion chief paramedic, service and problem-solving have always come naturally. But after retiring from a fast-paced emergency services career, he was ready for a new challenge — something that allowed him to stay active, use his hands, and continue helping others.
“I decided to take a leap of faith,” Justin said. “After years of fixing things around the house and helping people in stressful situations, I thought, why not take those skills and turn them into a career I can enjoy?”
That leap led him to the National RV Training Academy (NRVTA) in Athens, Texas, where thousands of students from across the country come to learn how to maintain, repair, and inspect RVs.
Discovering NRVTA on YouTube
Justin first discovered NRVTA while browsing YouTube.
“I happened to come across their videos,” he said. “The instructors made it seem approachable — like something I could really do. I thought, hey, I’ve worked on homes and fixed plenty of things around the house, so why not RVs?”
He enrolled in the Fundamentals course, a one-week introduction to all the major RV systems, and quickly realized he had found the right fit.
Hands-On Learning That Builds Real Confidence
“The Hands-On training here is unbeatable,” Justin said. “From the instructors to the teaching assistants, everyone makes sure you understand what you’re doing before moving on.”
After Fundamentals, Justin continued with the Advanced RV Technician courses, where he learned to service and troubleshoot air conditioners, furnaces, water heaters, and refrigerators.
He also added Solar and Generator classes, giving him a competitive edge as he prepares to start his own mobile RV repair business.
“This program has been nothing short of extraordinary,” Justin said. “I’ve gained the skills and tools necessary to move forward confidently.”
A Career Built on Purpose and Freedom
For Justin, NRVTA wasn’t just about learning to fix RVs — it was about finding a new purpose.
“After serving as a paramedic, I wanted to keep helping people, just in a different way,” he explained. “Now I’ll be able to help RV owners stay safe, comfortable, and confident on the road.”
He plans to use his certification to open a business that travels wherever RVers need assistance, combining his problem-solving mindset with his love for independence.
