From Retirement to Adventure – How Jeff & Cassie Found Purpose Through Hands-On RV Training at NRVTA

When Jeff and Cassie from Utah made the decision to retire and buy a fifth wheel, they had no idea how perfectly everything would line up for their next chapter.

“We don’t know how things fell together the way they did,” Cassie said. “From buying our fifth wheel to closing out Jeff’s career and hitting the road—it all just worked out.”

At first, only Jeff planned to attend the National RV Training Academy (NRVTA) in Athens, Texas. He wanted to learn how to take care of their new rig and gain confidence handling maintenance and repairs. But once the couple learned they could both use their education benefits, the plan evolved.

“It started out as just him going to school,” Cassie said. “Then we realized we could both do it, and it completely changed our direction.”

Learning Together Through Hands-On Training

Once they arrived in Athens, Jeff and Cassie immersed themselves in the NRVTA experience. They quickly discovered how comprehensive—and hands-on—the training was.

“The way they teach is incredible,” Jeff said. “Everything’s hands-on. We’re chasing power, testing propane systems, and learning to troubleshoot real-world RV problems.”

Cassie agreed, adding that the program’s approach made even complex systems easy to understand. “It’s phenomenal,” she said. “You’re not just listening—you’re doing it. You’re getting your hands dirty, solving problems, and seeing how everything works together.”

For both of them, the education benefits made it possible to pursue more than they originally planned.

“The support allowed us to say yes to both the technician and inspector courses,” Jeff explained. “We probably would’ve had to choose one or the other, but instead we could do both—and that’s been an incredible opportunity.”

A New Purpose After Retirement

For Jeff and Cassie, retirement wasn’t about slowing down—it was about creating something new together. The NRVTA program gave them the tools, training, and confidence to do just that.

Now, they’re looking forward to helping other RVers while continuing to travel the country.

“If you’re on the fence about attending NRVTA,” Jeff said, “don’t wait. Get the ball rolling and just get here. The skills you gain are life-changing.”

Cassie nodded in agreement. “This experience has brought us closer together,” she added. “We’ve learned so much—not just about RVs, but about working together and building a future we both love.”

For this Utah couple, NRVTA wasn’t just a school—it was a new beginning. The knowledge they gained will stay with them for life, giving them both the confidence to handle whatever the road throws their way.
