From RV Beginner to Confident RVer - How Sarah Gained RV Skills at the National RV Training Academy

For Sarah, the RV lifestyle started with curiosity — and a little uncertainty. From Erie, Pennsylvania, Sarah and her family had always been intrigued by the idea of traveling the country in an RV, but they quickly realized that owning one came with its own set of challenges.

“We had no prior knowledge of RV life,” Sarah said. “We were watching videos and doing research, but there’s only so much you can learn online.”

That’s when she came across the National RV Training Academy (NRVTA) through Instagram and YouTube. The more she watched, the more she realized that hands-on education was the missing piece. “When I found NRVTA, it just made sense,” she said. “If we’re going to live in our RV, I should know how it actually works.”

Learning from the Ground Up

At the National RV Training Academy, Sarah enrolled in the RV Fundamentals Course, a week-long hands-on training program designed to teach RV owners how to understand and maintain their rigs.

The course covers the essential systems that keep an RV running — electrical, propane, water, and refrigeration — while also teaching troubleshooting, maintenance, and safety. For newcomers like Sarah, it’s an eye-opening experience that helps take the fear and frustration out of RV ownership.

“Through this program, I’ve gained confidence in taking what I’ve learned back to my RV and actually being able to work on it,” she explained. “Even if I don’t fix everything myself, I now understand what’s going on and can talk to a technician intelligently.”

That sense of empowerment is exactly what NRVTA aims to provide. Whether someone plans to become a certified RV technician or simply wants to understand their own equipment better, the program equips students with the knowledge and skills to handle real-world issues on the road.

Confidence Through Knowledge

For Sarah, the most valuable part of her training was building the confidence to handle problems herself. “It’s given me the confidence to RV correctly and properly,” she said. “And hopefully, it will save me a lot of money down the road when something goes wrong.”

Like many new RVers, Sarah had experienced the stress of dealing with unexpected breakdowns and long repair waits. Learning how to diagnose simple issues, perform routine maintenance, and prevent common problems has transformed how she travels.

She now approaches the RV lifestyle with a sense of control — not fear. “Before, everything felt overwhelming,” she said. “Now, I know what to look for and what I can fix myself.”
