For Bridget from Austin, Texas, life on the road has always been about freedom — but when something broke in her fifth wheel, that freedom could turn into frustration.
“I’ve been a full-time nomad for about two years now,” she said. “I live in a fifth wheel full-time. The first year I had my RV, I went to the Austin RV Expo, and that’s where everything changed.”
At the expo, Bridget attended a seminar by Terry Cooper, the founder of the National RV Training Academy (NRVTA) in Athens, Texas.
“It was such an informative session,” she recalled. “I learned so much that day. It really made me want to look into the school as a whole.”
Why NRVTA Was the Right Fit
Bridget enrolled at NRVTA to gain hands-on knowledge about her own RV and eventually become a certified RV technician.
“I came here because I really wanted to learn how to work on my own rig,” she said. “I’d done a couple things here and there, but nothing serious. The hands-on experience I’ve gotten since being here has been amazing.”
At NRVTA, students don’t just sit through lectures — they repair real RV systems. Bridget spent time working on air conditioners, refrigerators, and electrical circuits, using diagnostic tools like clamp meters and multimeters under the supervision of expert instructors.
“You’d never be able to safely do this on your own,” she said. “Now I feel so much more comfortable using tools and testing equipment. The instructors show you the right way to do things.”
Confidence Built Through Hands-On Learning
Bridget admits that working on RV systems didn’t come naturally at first.
“This wasn’t something that came easy to me outside of my own rig,” she said. “But once I got here, I started gaining confidence. Now I feel comfortable working on my own RV — and with more practice, I’ll be ready to work on other people’s rigs too.”
That sense of empowerment is what NRVTA strives to give every student.
The academy, in partnership with the RV Technician Association of America (RVTAA) and the National RV Inspectors Association (NRVIA), provides the most comprehensive hands-on RV training in the U.S. Whether you’re a hobbyist, a full-time traveler, or someone looking to start a mobile repair business, NRVTA equips you with the skills and safety knowledge to succeed.
Empowerment Through Education
Bridget encourages anyone considering a change to take the leap.
“You’re not going to have a better opportunity to feel comfortable with that change than coming here,” she said. “Getting your hands on this stuff and learning it firsthand makes all the difference.”
For Bridget, NRVTA wasn’t just a school — it was a turning point.
“It’s been amazing,” she said. “Now I know what I’m doing. I feel confident, capable, and ready for whatever comes next.”
