When Mike and Laura from Spokane, Washington, first arrived at the National RV Training Academy (NRVTA) in Athens, Texas, they couldn’t have imagined how quickly their lives would change. Both came for different reasons — Mike wanted a new career path, while Laura and her husband were preparing for retirement and life on the road. But they left with the same outcome: thriving businesses and the freedom to control their schedules, their income, and their future.
The Decision to Start Something New
“I decided to come to NRVTA just to change the career I was in,” Mike explained. “I wanted to try something different, and what drew me in was how hands-on the training was.”
For Laura, the journey began when she and her husband started planning to RV full-time. They wanted something they could do while traveling to generate extra income, and mobile RV repair seemed like the perfect fit.
“Our research led us to NRVTA,” she said. “Everything we saw online and in videos showed it was the most complete school out there — so that’s where we went.”
Hands-On Training That Builds Confidence
At NRVTA, students don’t just sit in a classroom — they spend hours in the labs working on real RV appliances such as furnaces, refrigerators, air conditioners, and water heaters. They learn wiring, diagnostics, and safety — all while troubleshooting real problems under the guidance of certified instructors.
“The instructors were fantastic,” Mike said. “The learning experience and the community here were some of the best I’ve ever had.”
Laura agreed. “The hands-on training is what makes it so powerful,” she said. “You walk away with confidence because you’ve actually done the work yourself.”
Turning Training into Thriving Businesses
After graduation, Laura became a Teaching Assistant (TA) at NRVTA, where she met Mike. They soon realized they both lived in Spokane and decided to partner on their return home. That’s when On the Go Mobile RV and Pinnacle Mobile RV Service were born.
Since launching, they’ve been booked solid three weeks out since April and earning $15,000 to $20,000 a month on average.
“If you hear people say there’s no money in this industry, they’re wrong,” Laura said with a laugh. “We work six or seven days a week, and it’s been worth every bit of effort.”
Mike credits his success to the skills and confidence gained at NRVTA. “The school gave me the foundation to go out and do this with confidence. It’s in your back pocket when you start your business.”
Marketing and Momentum
Both Mike and Laura emphasize that training is only half the equation. “Market yourself,” Laura advises. “Do the legwork — build your Google profile, use Facebook, hand out cards. That’s what helps your business grow.”
Their effort paid off. Word-of-mouth referrals and repeat customers keep their schedules full — proof that quality service and professional training go hand in hand.
Why NRVTA Leads the Industry
When asked why they chose NRVTA over other schools, Mike was clear: “I firmly believe there’s no other school that compares for the completeness of the education, the quality of the instructors, and the campus itself. It was mind-blowing.”
Backed by the RV Technician Association of America (RVTAA) and the National RV Inspectors Association (NRVIA), NRVTA’s graduates are leading a nationwide movement of independent technicians and inspectors who put skill and service ahead of politics.
