Full-Time RVer to Future RV Technician - Marta’s Journey at the National RV Training Academy

When Marta Empinotti made the leap to live full-time in her RV, she embraced the adventure — the open roads, the national parks, and the freedom to travel anywhere. But like many RV owners, she quickly realized that living the RV lifestyle also meant learning how to maintain it.

Full-Time RVer to Future RV Technician - Marta’s Journey at the National RV Training Academy

“I figured if I’m going to live in an RV, I should know how to fix it,” Marta said. That simple realization set her on a journey to Athens, Texas, where she enrolled at the National RV Training Academy (NRVTA), the country’s leading hands-on school for RV maintenance, repair, and inspection.

A Recommendation That Sparked a Journey

The idea came from a friend who told her about a family that completely changed their lives through NRVTA. “A friend of mine mentioned that her daughter and husband sold their house and came here to take this course to become RV technicians,” Marta explained. “That inspired me. I thought, if they can do it, so can I.”

Living full-time in an RV, Marta understood the frustrations of waiting weeks for appointments or relying on expensive service centers. Learning to maintain and repair her own rig made sense both practically and financially.

Learning the Fundamentals

Marta recently completed her first week — the RV Fundamentals Course — a hands-on introduction that teaches students how to identify and maintain key RV systems, including electrical, water, propane, and appliances.

“At first, it was overwhelming,” she said. “It’s like learning a new language. But by the end of the week, everything started to make sense. I’ve already learned so much.”

The Fundamentals Course is designed for both aspiring professionals and everyday RV owners. It helps students build confidence in working with RV systems safely, giving them the knowledge to handle common maintenance tasks and troubleshoot problems on the road.

“The instructors are amazing,” Marta added. “They make sure you understand what you’re doing and why. It’s not just theory — it’s hands-on, and that makes all the difference.”

Moving Into Advanced Training

Encouraged by how much she learned in just one week, Marta is continuing her education through the Advanced RV Technician Program, where she’ll dive deeper into systems like refrigeration, air conditioning, water heaters, furnaces, and solar power.

“I’m going to do the whole Advanced Course,” she said. “By the time I finish, I’ll be a much more knowledgeable person.”

The advanced training builds on the foundation from the Fundamentals class and leads to certification through the RV Technician Association of America (RVTAA). Graduates can start mobile RV repair businesses, work for dealerships, or use their skills to support their own RV lifestyle.

About the National RV Training Academy

Located in Athens, Texas, the National RV Training Academy offers hands-on education for RV owners, technicians, and inspectors. Students can stay in their RVs on-site while attending classes, making it an immersive experience.

Each course blends classroom instruction with lab work, allowing students to physically test, diagnose, and repair real RV components. The academy’s instructors — including Todd Henson and a team of industry experts — bring years of practical experience and a passion for teaching.

Graduates can earn nationally recognized certifications through the RVTAA or the National RV Inspectors Association (NRVIA), both of which open doors to new careers and business opportunities.

Empowering Knowledge for Life on the Road

For Marta, the journey isn’t just about earning a certification — it’s about self-reliance and empowerment. “I already feel more confident,” she said. “This experience is making me a smarter RV owner and giving me the knowledge to take care of my home on wheels.”

As she continues through the advanced courses, Marta joins a growing community of NRVTA graduates who are transforming their passion for RVing into practical expertise.

“The National RV Training Academy is an excellent school,” Marta said. “If you own an RV or want to start a new career, this is the place to do it.”
