Joe and Charity had always loved to travel. They enjoyed the freedom of the open road, the excitement of discovering new places, and the memories they made along the way. But after a while, one challenge became clear — finding good people to work on their RV.
“After traveling for a little while, we learned that it’s difficult to find good people to work on your RV,” Joe said. “We wanted to educate ourselves so that we could take care of our own RV.”
That search led them to the National RV Training Academy (NRVTA) in Athens, Texas — the nation’s leading school for hands-on RV repair, maintenance, and inspection training.
Taking Control of the RV Lifestyle
Originally from Amarillo, Texas, Joe and Charity wanted to be more self-reliant and help others who might find themselves stranded during a trip.
“We researched different programs out there,” Charity said. “And when we found NRVTA, it stood out immediately. The facilities, the instructors, the hands-on experience — it just felt like the right fit.”
They soon made the trip to Athens, ready to learn everything they could about how RVs work.
Learning by Doing
“The experience has been fantastic,” Charity said. “The instructors exceeded our expectations — and the hands-on training was better than anything we could’ve imagined.”
During the five-week technician and inspection courses, students at NRVTA learn how to diagnose, service, and repair every major RV system — from electrical and propane to air conditioning, heating, and plumbing.
“You’re not just sitting in a classroom,” Joe added. “You’re in the lab, taking things apart, troubleshooting problems, and actually learning how to fix them. The skills we’ve learned here are going to be amazing to move forward into the industry.”
Building Skills That Help Others
For Joe and Charity, this journey wasn’t just about personal growth — it was about helping others.
“What I’m most excited about,” Joe said, “is being able to help families enjoy their vacations. When an RV breaks down, it can ruin a trip that someone’s been planning for months. I want to be the person who gets them back on the road so they can keep making memories.”
That commitment to service has become a shared purpose for both of them.
“We’ve loved every part of this experience,” Charity added. “It’s been far better than we expected — and we already had high expectations.”
Empowerment Through Education
NRVTA’s programs are designed to give students both the technical knowledge and the real-world confidence they need to succeed — whether they want to run a business or simply understand their own RV better.
For Joe and Charity, the education they received went beyond learning to fix things. It gave them independence, confidence, and a renewed sense of purpose.
“The training here gives you the skills to solve problems and help people,” Joe said. “That’s what this is all about.”
A Future of Freedom and Service
As they look ahead, Joe and Charity are excited to bring their new skills back to the road — helping RV owners across Texas and beyond stay safe, comfortable, and confident in their travels.
For them, NRVTA wasn’t just a school — it was a stepping stone to a life of freedom, family, and purpose.
