How NRVTA Training Helped an Austin RV Tech Build a Six-Figure Mobile Business

When Rich from Austin, Texas, first heard about the National RV Training Academy (NRVTA), he wasn’t looking for a new career — he was looking for someone to fix his RV. His camper was under warranty, and he wanted a technician who really knew what they were doing.

That’s when a certified RV technician — and NRVTA graduate — came out to do the job.

“The technician told me about the school,” Rich said. “It sounded like a wonderful idea.”

At first, his wife laughed when he mentioned attending a hands-on RV training program. But the more he researched NRVTA, the more he saw the opportunity.

“With all the campers on the road and all the positive things I heard about NRVTA, I knew I had to check it out for myself,” he said.

Training That Builds Confidence

Rich enrolled in NRVTA’s five-week RV technician training program in Athens, Texas, where he learned directly from industry experts like Todd Henson.

“It was super hands-on and super informative,” he said. “Todd gave us the content in a way that was easy to understand and really helped set me up to know what I’d face in the field.”

From diagnosing air conditioners and furnaces to troubleshooting electrical systems, the live lab training helped him build confidence that no book or video could match.

“I can’t think of another training course that was so in-depth and hands-on,” Rich said. “I left feeling completely confident going out and tackling this thing.”

Launching Possible Mobile RV Services

After graduating, Rich didn’t wait. He hit the ground running and launched Possible Mobile RV Services, a mobile repair company serving the greater Austin area.

He designed his logo, ordered business cards, and built a digital presence on Google and Facebook. Within a month, he started getting calls — lots of them.

“I started with a $500 ad spend and my phone rang five to ten times a day,” Rich said. “That’s when I realized that marketing wasn’t a cost — it was an investment in myself.”

As he refined his advertising and continued serving customers, his business exploded. Within months, he was spending around $1,500 a month on ads — and bringing in $35,000 to $45,000 in monthly gross revenue.

“I’ve already hired another technician,” he said. “NRVTA gave me the skills to start the business, and marketing helped me scale it.”

Training That Pays Off

Rich believes the key to success is going all-in — both on training and follow-through.

“If you’re going to invest the time and money to come to NRVTA, also think about what you’re going to do when you go back home,” he advised. “That’s how you make this a wildly successful career.”

Through partnerships with the RV Technician Association of America (RVTAA) and the National RV Inspectors Association (NRVIA), NRVTA continues to train technicians like Rich — professionals who are redefining what RV service can look like in their local communities.

“NRVTA changed my life,” he said. “It gave me a career I love, the freedom to grow, and the confidence to know I can handle whatever comes my way.”
