Get your RV Technician Certification in as little as 5 weeks!

For Larry, the RV lifestyle started as an adventure with his wife — a chance to travel, explore, and live life on their own terms. But as every new RVer learns, understanding how your RV works is key to enjoying the journey.
“We were brand new to the RV world,” Larry said. “When I found the National RV Training Academy (NRVTA) in Athens, Texas, it just made sense to take the Fundamentals Course so I’d actually know what I was doing.”
That simple decision led to one of the most rewarding experiences of his life — and opened the door to a new career he didn’t expect.
Learning the Fundamentals
The Fundamentals Course is where every NRVTA student begins. It’s a one-week, hands-on class designed to teach RV owners how every major system in an RV operates — including electrical, propane, water, air conditioning, and refrigeration.
“It’s a week of intense learning,” Larry said. “Todd Henson, the Director of Education, teaches the whole course, and he makes it easy to understand no matter your background.”
By the end of the week, Larry realized how valuable the knowledge truly was. “You can stop there and become a registered technician, or go on to the next four weeks and become a certified RV technician — even start your own business,” he explained.
From Necessity to Opportunity
Like many RV owners, Larry came to NRVTA out of necessity. “We were new RVers, and I wanted to make sure we could take care of our rig,” he said. “But after being here, I saw something bigger — a business opportunity.”
The RV industry has seen rapid growth in recent years, but there’s still a major shortage of qualified service professionals. Larry saw that gap firsthand.
“If you’re at a crossroads in life and wondering what’s next, this might be it,” he said. “There’s a real need for mobile RV technicians, and NRVTA gives you the tools to get started.”
Start Online, Then Go Hands-On
For anyone unsure about traveling to Texas for in-person training, Larry suggests beginning with the RV Tech Course — NRVTA’s online program available through RVTechCourse.com.
“It’s a great lead-in to what you’ll experience at the school,” he said. “You can take it at home, get a feel for the content, and decide if it’s something you want to pursue further.”
That online experience mirrors what students learn in the classroom and prepares them for the live, hands-on labs that make NRVTA unique.
A Confident New Path
Today, Larry looks back on his decision with pride. “I came here partly because I needed to learn, but I left realizing I could build something of my own,” he said. “This experience has been incredible. If you’re willing to take the first step, you’ll come out on top.”
