When Steve and Laurie decided they wanted more freedom and adventure in life, they didn’t just buy an RV — they built a career around it.

The couple, owners of Chase in the 70s, came to the National RV Training Academy (NRVTA) in Athens, Texas, in December of last year, right before Christmas. They enrolled in the Fundamentals course, followed by Solar Training, and then completed the full five-week Certified Technician program after the holidays.

“Coming to NRVTA has been an amazing experience,” Steve said. “It’s given us the opportunity to really explore the United States while still making great money.”

Training That Feels Like Family

Steve and Lori quickly discovered what makes NRVTA different — a supportive learning environment where students feel like family.

“The instructors here are really good, and the hands-on training is amazing,” Lori said. “It’s not just classroom work. You’re out there testing, wiring, and troubleshooting actual RV components. It’s real experience.”

For them, the school didn’t just provide technical training — it offered a community. “It’s like coming home to family,” Lori added.

From Students to Successful Business Owners

After completing their courses, the couple launched their business and hit the road. Their results were immediate.

“Our first month in business, we made between ten and twelve thousand dollars,” Steve said. “We’ve stayed extremely busy — sometimes doing four or five jobs a day when we were in Wyoming.”

Even as they travel across the country, business keeps coming in thanks to the RVTAA Certified Technician Locator, which helps RV owners find trained professionals nearby.

“We’ve been getting calls since we got to Athens,” Steve said. “The locator has been fantastic. It keeps us working no matter where we go.”
