Truck Driver to Certified RV Tech - How Jeremy Joined His Family’s Business Through NRVTA Training

Jeremy from Kingsport, Tennessee, spent years behind the wheel of a truck before deciding it was time for a change. He wanted a career that gave him more flexibility — and one that allowed him to work alongside his dad.

“My dad came to NRVTA a little over a year ago,” Jeremy said. “He’s been in business ever since, and it’s been going great. Now it’s my turn to join the family business and help him out.”

That decision led Jeremy to Athens, Texas, home of the National RV Training Academy (NRVTA) — the nation’s premier school for hands-on RV technician and inspector training.

Learning the Fundamentals

Jeremy started his journey with NRVTA’s RV Fundamentals course, which teaches students how every system in an RV works, from plumbing and propane to electrical and appliances.

“Todd does such a great job laying everything out,” Jeremy said. “He gives you a full overview that helps you make sense of all the parts and systems. Once I got into the air conditioning and refrigeration classes, it all clicked — because of how the fundamentals course was taught.”

That strong foundation prepared him for the Advanced Certified Technician courses, where the learning became even more hands-on.

“In the advanced classes, we got to take systems apart, troubleshoot real issues, and put everything back together,” he explained. “That hands-on experience was really good for me — I learn best by doing.”

Confidence Through Certification

For Jeremy, NRVTA was more than a training program — it was the key to confidence and a new career direction.

“NRVTA helped me become more confident in what I was already doing,” he said. “Now, with this certification, I’ll be able to go anywhere in the United States and work on RVs. There are so many RVs out there and not enough technicians to keep up with the demand.”

He’s eager to return home to Tennessee and help his dad’s growing business continue to serve RV owners across their region.

A New Career and a Family Legacy

Jeremy’s story is one of transformation, family, and opportunity. What started as a trucking career turned into a new calling — one that lets him use his hands, solve problems, and help others stay on the road.

“If you’re looking for another career or want a change, I highly recommend NRVTA,” Jeremy said. “You’ll learn the skills you need, gain the confidence to work on your own RV or others’, and maybe even start your own business.”
